Lindalva DaSilva of Boston, MA went into labor at the very early point of 24 weeks. Her doctors at Tufts Medical Center were able to slow down her contractions with magnesium sulfate to hold her off for 4 days until they just couldn’t hold her off any longer. Her doctors were worried that with such an early delivery that both twins might not survive. It was decided to try a rarely done procedure.
Lindalva gave birth to her Baby A – Alexandre – and then her labor slowed. She was given antibiotics to decrease the risk of infection and luckily her contractions stopped. Alexandre was rushed to the NICU and, though he needed a lot of medical support, he was stable and doing well.
Then 24 days later Lindalva went into labor again! Baby B – Ronaldo – was born and joined his brother in the NICU. Both twins are doing very well and continue to grow and flourish. Hopefully they will be released soon and can go home with mommy and daddy. We wish the DaSilva family all the best for a happy and healthy reunion at home!
