Learn how to make homemade popsicles with these 3 tasty recipes for strawberry watermelon, chocolate peanut butter, and blueberry yogurt popsicles.
Popsicles and hot summer days are the perfect match. My kids would eat a popsicle (or two!) every single day in the summer if I would let them. Even though it’s summertime, I still want to make sure I keep their nutrition in check.
The sugar content in most store-bought popsicles is not something I can get behind for every day consumption! The best part about these three homemade popsicle recipes is that there is no added sugar. That way I can let them enjoy these often, and still be able to indulge in summer treats (S’mores!) when they come around.
These recipes are so simple older children can probably even make them by themselves! We love to play around with the ingredients and add different fruits or yogurts to them. There are so many possibilities and your kids will have the memories of making these with you!
Tips for making homemade popsicles
– Whatever fruit the recipe calls for, make sure it is very ripe. Since there is no sugar added to these, the sweetness comes from the ripeness of the fruit. Popsicles are the perfect way to use overripe bananas and strawberries and make the popsicles taste even better!
– This is the popsicle mold I use that makes 10 popsicles at a time (buy the sticks too!) I love that it has a lid to hold the sticks in place. When using any mold, you should place the mold in the freezer filled with your blended liquid for an hour before you put the lid on and/or the sticks in. This keeps the sticks upright and in place.
– All the popsicles should be frozen for at least 3-4 hours before removing from the mold and eating, so if you have younger kids you’ll want to plan ahead. My 3-year-olds love to help mix them up, but I have to prepare them for the waiting part before we can eat them!
– Once you remove all the popsicles from the mold, they can be stored flat in the freezer in a Ziploc bag!
