Read how to make a delicious Greek gyro burger recipe that your family will love. It’ll become a dinnertime staple at your house.
Summertime is all about easy dinners in our house. We love to fire up the grill and throw on some burgers while the kids are playing outside. Plus, the house stays cool because the oven stays off!
My husband and I love to try different burger toppings and have come up with some winners over the years, but this one is by far our favorite!
This Greek gyro burger is a refreshing and delicious end to a hot, summer day. If you have a garden with lots of cucumbers or tomatoes, it’s the perfect way to use some of those!
I’m warning you though. The cucumber tzatziki sauce is addicting. We’ve used it on burgers, chicken wraps, paninis, etc. The fresh cucumber gives it the perfect summer flavor!
Greek gyro burger recipe PRINTABLE down below!
Ingredients
This recipe makes 6 third-pound burgers.
- 3 – Pita Pockets (approximately 5 inch round)
- 2 lb. of ground beef
- Steak Seasoning
- 1 large cucumber
- ¾ cups plain Greek yogurt
- ¼ cup of sour cream
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise (or Miracle Whip)
- Chopped tomato
- Chopped red onion
- Crumbled feta cheese (a tablespoon or more per burger)
REMINDER: Always follow food safety guidelines. Keep the meat cold until you are ready to use it and keep work surfaces clean. Always wash your hands before and after handing the ground beef.
Directions
1. Divide your hamburger meat into 6 sections and form into patties with your hands or with a burger press. Press down each patty a little in the center so the middle doesn’t puff up when they are grilled. Sprinkle with steak seasoning.
2. Grill your burgers over medium-high heat until desired doneness. I prefer mine cooked medium so we do about 6 minutes or so each side. Let rest for about 5 minutes after grilling, for a nice juicy burger!
3. While the burgers are grilling, mix up the cucumber tzatziki. Peel your cucumber and cut half of it into large chunks. (Reserve the other half to top your burgers with.) Place into a food processor.
4. Chop cucumber until it’s almost a liquid. If you prefer a thicker tzatziki sauce, gently drain some of the excess liquid in your chopped cucumber. I prefer to leave the liquid because it gives such a fresh cucumber taste!
5. Mix the cucumber, yogurt, sour cream, garlic, and mayonnaise in a medium-sized bowl until combined.
6. Chop up your remaining cucumber, tomato, and red onion. Cut pitas in half and open up the pocket while your burgers rest.
7. Stuff the burger into your pita pocket and top with chopped cucumber, tomato, red onion, a tablespoon or more of feta cheese, and spread on some of your cucumber tzatziki sauce! Enjoy!
It’s a burger fit for a summer night!
