This apricot honey glazed ham recipe is the perfect dish for having guests over for dinner! It’s so low maintenance and, unlike turkey or chicken, there is no need to worry about accidentally serving raw ham. Almost all hams you buy in the store are already pre-cooked (check the front of your package to be sure) and they just need to be heated through! Especially on holidays, a honey glazed ham recipe is the way to go!

This recipe uses honey and apricot preserves that make a sweet glaze to give your ham an amazing flavor. Wrapping the ham in foil keeps it nice and juicy while it warms and helps the sweet flavors of the glaze melt into the meat. With 30 minutes left in the cooking time, you open the foil and increase the oven temperature to caramelize the glaze around the outside of the ham. It’s so good!

This honey glazed ham recipe is great for boneless or bone-in hams. Read your package instructions for specific cooking times based on the size of your ham. Generally, bone-in hams take longer to cook. You will want to heat your ham to an internal temperature of 145 degrees.

Apricot Honey Glazed Ham Recipe

  • Prep time: 20 minutes
  • Cook time: approximately 15 minutes per pound of ham (read specific heating instructions on purchased ham)
  • Servings: varies, depending on size of your ham

Ingredients 

  • ½ cup (1 stick) butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup apricot preserves
  • 2 tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • ¼ tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. ground cloves
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Aluminum foil

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Arrange the racks in your oven to accommodate the size of your ham. Remove all plastic and packaging from your ham.
  2. If ham is not sliced, slice thin pieces 2/3 of the way through the ham. (You still want the ham to stay together, so do not slice all the way through.)

3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the butter, brown sugar, honey, apricot preserves, Dijon mustard, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring it to a simmer until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is combined. (The small pieces of apricot in the preserves will not melt completely, that’s ok!)

4. Add 4 cloves of minced garlic to the sugar mixture and cook for an additional two minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

5. Roll out two large pieces of foil, overlapping in the center and lay your ham in the middle. Using a basting brush (click to buy), brush half of the honey glaze all over the outside of the ham and in between the slices.

6. Wrap the ham up and place into a roasting pan (click to buy) or 9×13 pan. (I used a foil roasting pan for easy clean-up.)

7. Bake at 325 degrees for the time indicated on the package your ham came in. (Approximately 15 minutes per pound of ham.)

8. 30 minutes before the ham is done, remove it from the oven. Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees. Carefully open up the foil, while being sure to be careful of the hot steam! Brush the ham again with the remaining glaze and place back into the oven, leaving the foil wrap open. Bake for the remaining 30 minutes.

9. Let the ham rest for 10 minutes before serving and enjoy!
