Summer is here! Check out this list of 11 awesome summer reading books for twin parents, even if you don’t think you have the time.
Ok so let me be really honest here, I dream of reading. I used to read, and I have a packed Kindle AND Nook, and bookshelves of books, but I have twins, toddler twins at that. So, if I have time to read I need it to be good, fast, and pretty easy to read. When asking my fellow MoM Squad and Twiniversity Fans about their favorite reads we all had to take a step back and realize reading is not at the top of the list when there can be sleep instead. My friend was on maternity leave for her twins at the same time as I was and we would chat about the popular culture rags we read but that our twin sleep books had basically become paperweights. So with all of my honesty out there, I present a list of fun books for summer reading that you can maybe sneak in while you are sitting in the bathroom hiding from life?
1. All We Ever Wanted: A Novel by Emily Giffin
From the bestselling author of something borrowed and something blue, comes All We Ever Wanted which is told from the perspective of three separate people from two Nashville families as they struggle with the fallout from a horrible incident. Their affluent community divided, with people quick to blame and take sides as the families struggle with loyalty and staying true to their values. summer reading books
2. Hungry Heart: Adventures in Life, Love, and Writing by Jennifer Weiner
In this entertaining memoir, Jennifer Weiner, known for her plus-size heroines, authentic voice, and hilarious one-liners, offers her fans and others a front-row seat to the drama of her life. This book shows you that the author writes the way that she does and all of her books seem so close to her heart because they are her own life experiences that she channels into her fiction. summer reading books
3. How to Walk Away: A Novel by Katherine Center
I was able to actually read this wonderful book that could almost be a self-help book, but beautifully written as a work of fiction. One night changed the course of Margaret’s near perfect Type A life. How will she survive? How will she go through in a new life, with a new circumstance, and a new reality? You can read my full review here.
4. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
So I have to be honest I picked the most recent and probably at this time the most recognized title by Liane Moriarty. Big Little Lies which has now become an award-winning HBO series. Big Little Lies follows women through their upper-middle-class lives and what women deal with. What ALL women deal with. The author writes classic “domestic” novels that are relatable and juicy and hard to put down. Other books in the collection and should read as well are “What Alice Forgot” and “The Husband’s Secret”. summer reading books
5. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his life, past, and future. His disappearances are spontaneous, his experiences unpredictable, alternately harrowing and amusing. This is Henry’s story with his wife Claire who he marries a few times and has known since she was 6 and he was 36. Follow their love story and the trials of a marriage that has to survive on several time planes.
6. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
A simple fable of Santiago, a shepherd boy, who dreams of seeing the world and the many lessons he learns during his adventures. He journeys from Spain to Morocco in search of worldly success, and eventually to Egypt, where he comes across an alchemist who brings him at last to self-understanding and spiritual enlightenment. summer reading books
7. The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton
The classic 1967 novel that can be credited as the first true Young Adult novel. Still relevant in the modern day and still as captivating. This is the story of Ponyboy and his gang of greasers and their troubles with a rival gang “The Socs” who are made up of a bunch of rich kids who get their kicks on beating up on the “Greasers” from the wrong side of town. A true tale of friendship and hardship and growing up. summer reading books
8. The English Patient (Vintage International) by Michael Ondaatje
The story of four damaged lives that come together in an Italian monastery as World War II ends. The exhausted nurse, Hana; the maimed thief, Caravaggio; the wary sapper, Kip: each is haunted by the riddle of the English patient, the nameless, burn victim who lies in an upstairs room and whose memories of passion, betrayal, and rescue come through in great detail throughout. Also check out his new novel: Warlight.
9. The Perfect Mother: A Novel by Aimee Molloy
This book was a bestseller from go and is already in the works to be a major motion picture. The Perfect Mother is a psychological thriller about a group of women whose lives become unexpectedly connected when one of their newborns goes missing.
10. The Favorite Sister by Jessica Knoll

11. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
Ok, a lot of people picked the Harry Potter Series and I kind of feel like a fraud because I never read them, but I wanted to put it out there. This is the 7th and final book of the series, aside from the original west end playscript. Harry must come out of hiding and face his enemies once and for all!
There are so many other great summer reading books, and reads in general out there. I tried to give you a variety for whatever you are interested in. I am a woman who enjoys a quick read and a go-to author like James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Jodi Picoult, and Stephen King (not a quick read but amazing). We all need an outlet and for some of us curling up to a good book can be one of those self-care things we meant to remember to do for ourselves once in a while.
